We walked through the door of Dazzles and Jill asked two questions, "What pageant is it?" and "How old are you?" My daughter, Aubrey answered, "Miss South Aiken and I'm a senior." Jill thought for about two seconds and said, "I've been waiting for the right brunette to walk through the door because I have the perfect dress."
Well, she was right. When Aubrey walked on stage wearing the dress, the crowd sighed an audible sigh. She won the crown of Miss South Aiken that night. I can't believe that our Journey in the teen pageants is now over, it makes me sad. I'll never forget you telling me that if I won the teen title that I would have to come live with you for a year. It really meant a lot to me that you were really looking out for my best interest. Well lets just say that you lucked out because I am a MESS!!! Thank you for finding the perfect dress for me for the state pageant! It was perfect. It was classy, elegant, and a little bit flirty...very Princess Grace. I love my dress so much and you will get to see me where it again at my wedding because I know that it will be my wedding dress! I have never felt more beautiful and regal in any other gown! Now my swimsuit! I didnt know if I wanted to stick with my old swimsuit or get another one so I'm glad that I stayed with my one from last year. It is so sporty and cute and so me and those custom made earrings that you made for me completed the whole look! I would have never won the swimsuit award if it werent for you and Mike Mauny. Who would have thought that I could have gone on a diet and stuck to it. I should change my name from Princess Grace to Miss Hot Bod! Just kidding Well I think that it is time that I say goodbye to pageants for a little bit, I know that I am no where near ready to become a miss yet. I am thinking about auditioning for America's Next Top Model this summer once I turn 18. I don't think I can put into words how much you have helped and guided me through not only my pageant, but also personal life! Ever since you saved me from the embarrasement of ashy legs at the mere age of eight I have been forever indebted to you. Growing up in pageants I always enjoyed seeing and spending time with you at the many different events. After a short pause from pageants when I came back I was happy to find that someone of your knowledge and experience had opened a shop. I feel that you not only make girls look gorgeous, but you make them feel gorgeous in whatever they wear. As you like to say, "Its not the clothes that make the person but the person who makes the clothes." Preparing for state last year was a challenge but thanks to your help I was able to make it through getting into top 10. I know that as I prepare for state this year as Miss Lexington USA it will be much easier thanks to all the knowledge and experience you have shared with me. Now, however, with that and Miss Greenville/Greater Greer Teen USA under my belt, I feel more and more ready every day. I get tons and tons of compliments on everything that I get from Dazzles, from my interview suit (Legally Blonde!) to my beautiful dresses and swimsuit! Everyone who has seen my prom dress has gone straight to Dazzles to try and find theirs for this year, and I can't wait to go to my prom and show off my gorgeous Dazzles gown! Well my grandmother used to always say that it is better late than sorry, so please excuse the tardiness of this post. I think you are well aware of the time I have spent away from SC, since the Miss SC Teen USA pageant last November. Taking care of my out-of-state mother-in-law presents quite a challenge and time, but alas I have been home about 2 weeks now. I can't even begin to express my gratitude for all that you have done over the years for my daughter, Grace. I was so excited that she won Miss Aiken Teen USA and Miss Congeniality, allowing her the opportunity to earn her way to the Miss SC Teen USA pageant. Grace's gown, which exuded an "old Hollywood" style, was more than I could ever expect. I did not think you could ever out-do the lilac gown, hence, Grace wore it to death (but it was her lucky color). The rest of Grace's pageant attire was also exceptional, and the Mike Benet gown, she wore in opening number, was the bomb (old expression - but I am lost for words). The enhancements that you and Cy Frakes (www.gownsandcrowns.com) recommended to Juanita (Juanita's on Main - Columbia, SC), made that gown the standout that I thought it was. The swimsuit looked great for Grace's body style and I have always loved the ballerina looking interview suit. The best thing of all is that you were able, through her attire, to keep Grace glamorous, without compromising her morals, by placing her in a non-teen gown, meaning no-slits, no low cut back exposing her bottom, and very appropriate at the top, without being too low-cut. You can sex her up a bit after she turns 18, if she so desires, but I am so greatful that you recognize that a gown does not have to be "too sexy to win". Hey, 3rd runner-up out of 94 contestants was more than we could have ever prayed for. I cry when I ready Grace's entry into your guestbook. I am so glad that she could see you when she competed for Miss SC Teen USA and that just by your presence, you allowed her to stay focused, simply because she could see you and she believed in you, as much as I know you believe in her. Also, thank you so much for standing in and playing "Mommy" for me, during the pageant preparation for the recent Miss Greenville & Greer Teen USA pageants. I did not know for sure if Grace was going to compete and being with my mother-in-law did not allow me to come back to SC to assist her with her preparations. The lavendar cocktail gown was the most beautiful that I have seen in a longtime and I thought Grace looked great in the Mardi Gras opening number wearing it. As you know, your preparation paid off, and Grace won 1st runner-up and Miss Photogenic. And guess what? I enjoyed that pageant more than I have in a long time. Why? Because I drove straight in from GA and watched, while you and my husband did all the work leading up to the event. Now the Miss Ridge View High School pageant is upon us and we sure hope that Grace can pull off another win. Her Miss Sophomore Ridge View High School win last year was very satisfying and exciting. Grace's Miss SC Teen USA wardrobe will look awesome at this pageant. I just wish you sold ballet costumes, because here we are, down to the wire and and no costume, but I am sure we will work it out. Above all, Jill, your friendship over the last four years is valued by me, more than you will ever know. I treasure the time that we are able to spend together and I enjoy your company. | Comments: | Miss Jill where do I begin? I can still remember three years ago when I met you. I was a shy little girl crying about not being able to be a ballerina. Shy, yes I know kinda unimaginable now! lol. You helped me realize that there are more things out there besides ballet and then you helped me find my first pageant dress and I traded in my pointe shoes for a pair of high heels. Ever since that day I knew that you would be someone who would change my life forever...and you have! I am shy no more, your personality is very contagious. You have been supportive of me in everything I do whether its been pageants, ballet, or lacrosse and I appreciate that so much.
I remember us discussing me giving the USA system a shot. I remember seeing all of the beautiful pictures of Stephanie, Ashley, and Amanda and thinking wow this system is definitly not going to be for me. But you have taught me to believe in my dreams and not to put limits on my goals and to never give up, So I did give the USA system a shot. That was the best decision I could ever make. I remember being backstage and the Aiken/North Augusta prelim and thinking what am I doing here? All the girls were so beautiful and so fit! When I won the title of Miss Aiken Teen USA I thought I was dreaming, I never thought that that could happen to me. When they put the crown on my head I looked over at you and you smiled at me and I knew that I had made you proud. The next big hurtle was Miss SC Teen USA. I remember looking at the pictures of all the contestants on the internet and thinking what have I gotten myself into. I remember thinking how can the judges pick just one girl out of this beautiful group of 94. Then when I arrived at the pageant I was speechless, they were all prettier then their pictures! After I made top 15 I was shocked and then I was praying that I would look half-way decent in my swimsuit so that I could make top 10 and show of my beautiful Dazzles dress that you picked out for me. When I did make top 10 I knew that I could make top 5 because Miss Jill I already felt like a winner in my dress. After I did make top 5 I was so nervous I felt like I was going to throw up! During the onstage interview you were the only person in the audiance that I could see, and the only person I wanted to see. Seeing you smile at me and shake your head aproving my answers gave me a since of comfort and I knew that no matter what the outcome of the pageant was, I had made you proud. When the MC called my name as third runner up I was kind of dissappointed but at the same time I was so happy for Lauren because she is a great girl and she really worked hard for this. I remember standing onstage after the pageant with my flowers smileing at you because I knew that without you I would not have been standing on that stage with those flowers. Everything that I have become I owe it all to you Miss Jill. I know you get this all the time but you really have been like a second mom to me through the years. I am so fortunate that I have a friend like you. And guess what Mommy Jill???? We are going to do this all again next year, isn't that so exciting! I can't wait. I just want to know how wonderful you truly are. You have helped Megan in so many ways. Her outfits for Miss South Carolina USA were fantastic. I know that made the difference for her and made her feel like a winner even before she stepped out on stage. Her swimsuit, interview suit and evening qown were show stoppers. You have always been there for her with such great advice every step of the way. Even when we showed up at the last minute like the night before we left for California to find an evening gown for Megan to wear at America's Homecoming Queen Contest. You obviously did a great job because she became America's Homecoming Queen that year. You have always helped Megan not only with beautiful outfits but with advice on makeup, interview skills, great ideas on how to fix her hair and even how to walk like a queen. You are truly a very special person - one that we could not do without. What really makes you remarkable is that you make everyone that you help feel remarkable too. For almost five years now you have watched me grow up and meet many of lifes challeneges along the way!The Lesson that you have taught are not only about interview, walking (w/out tripping!)and looking like a lady, but being one too.You have taught me that nothing means more than to be your sweet loving self and to always be true to yourself because then nothing can defeat you. She is shy when it comes to public speaking. She is getting ready for her first prom, unfortunatly we are not as fortunate as most who may be able to afford such beautiful gowns. We were just looking and thought your gowns were gorgeous and just wanted you to know. We've been "window shopping" for the perfect dress... it's been fun watching my baby grow up and try on gowns and want to look like a yooung woman. She wants a dress thats stylish, form fitting, no slits, shows off her back, but will blow her boyfriend away and shows she's not "trashy, sleazy", "white-trailer-trash", "poor", or a "river-rat"...
